Healthy organizations begin
with healthy communication.
Training & consulting for organizations committed to safer, stronger, more effective systems.
I help organizations enhance communication, improve team culture, and respond more effectively to conflict, trauma, and gender-based violence & abuse.
I translate research into tools people can actually use — whether training staff, advising leadership, or consulting on complex legal cases.
Evidence-based. Trauma-informed. Practical and clear.

Expert Witness + Case Consulting Services
I serve as a domestic violence expert witness providing analysis and testimony in criminal and civil cases involving coercive control, victim behavior, and trauma-informed dynamics.
Services Include:
Evaluating case evidence using social scientific methods
Conducting interviews and independent case analysis
Preparing expert reports
Providing deposition testimony
Testifying in court (educational and opinion testimony)
My work often involves serving as a coercive control expert witness, helping courts and juries understand patterns of manipulation, isolation, and victim response dynamics.
Expert Witness Areas of Expertise
I provide expert analysis and testimony on the following topics related to domestic violence, coercive control, and victim behavior.
Patterns of abuse, harassment, and interpersonal violence
Coercive control tactics (e.g., manipulation, isolation, intimidation, gaslighting) and discourse analysis demonstrating subtle patterns of abuse
Power-based violence, sexual harassment, and discrimination (including gender and sexual orientation) in intimate, workplace, or institutional contexts
Workplace harassment and discrimination dynamics within broader patterns of gender-based violence
Identifying types of violence and distinguishing victim vs. perpetrator behavior using evidence-based assessment tools (see my related research here and here)
Victim responses to violence, including self-defense, recantation, and barriers to reporting (see my related research here)
The intersection of substance use and domestic violence (see my related research here and here)
Common myths about domestic violence vs. documented patterns observed in research and practice
Bias and the “perfect victim” stereotype in juror and institutional perceptions
Trauma and its behavioral effects (myths vs. evidence-based realities)
Lethality and danger assessments, particularly in cases involving claims of self-defense
Institutional responses to violence, including judicial and law-enforcement bias (see my related research here and here)
*I only voluntarily work on cases that support victim-survivors. In some situations that means helping assess primary aggressor status or patterns of coercive control. In other cases, I may work with defense teams when an abused person has been wrongly charged or acted in self-defense. I may also work with prosecutors when a survivor chooses to engage with the legal system.
My goal is always to help courts and juries better understand the dynamics of interpersonal violence and victim behavior.
Attorneys or legal teams interested in consultation or testimony can contact me to discuss case details and availability.
Research & Special Projects
I conduct custom research for internal use or stakeholders:
field methods, interviews, document analysis, surveys
analyzing climate, communication patterns, and how organizational culture functions
presenting findings via various deliverables

How I Work
My work focuses on translating research into practical tools people can actually use. Trainings and consulting engagements are tailored to each organization’s goals, audience, and context.
Tailored Collaboration
I partner with organizations to understand their specific goals and challenges, adapting the work as contexts evolve and new insights emerge.
Clarity, Transparency, & Informed Consent
I prioritize reducing uncertainty by clearly communicating expectations and processes. My goal is to create collaborative partnerships that are both supportive and appropriately challenging.
Research-Grounded & Evidence-Based
My work draws on decades of research on communication, relationships, and social systems while remaining attentive to lived experience. I translate social science into practical, humane strategies for complex, high-stakes contexts.
Trauma-Informed
For me, being trauma-informed is not just a credential — it’s a practice. I work with care, consent, and attentiveness to power, adapting processes to minimize harm and support agency. My approach reflects core trauma-informed principles such as safety, trust, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural humility.
Pricing
I typically work on a sliding scale for organizations. This approach allows me to collaborate with nonprofits and groups with limited budgets while still supporting larger institutional partners. Contact me for details.

I sought out Dr. Guthrie to assist in our Equal Employment Opportunity trainings, and she delivered! Her style, content and knowledge significantly added to our trainings! Her style is engaging and forces participants to look inward and professionally. Her research and findings are made real by her case studies; yet still while maintaining privacy, she gives a personality to her research. More than numbers and data, Dr. Guthrie’s rare talent to make research relatable will only enhance training sessions, especially with topics that may be difficult. - Training Collaborator
